Ravencroft Rabbitry & urban homestead

About Me

I'm both a feral housewife to many boys, and an industrial working mama... who happens to have homesteading dreams. I'm also a widow, so to say that life has thrown me a couple curve balls, might be a slight understatement.
My name is Amy, I live in the Cariboo region of British Columbia, in an urban residential neighborhood. My house is bigger than I'd like, and the yard smaller, but as with everything, this is just a mere stepping stone in this adventure we call life.
I'm allowed four hens. I currently have two, with a few extra chicks I'm growing out. If I'm going to have chickens, I want my hens to either look cool, or produce cool eggs... I'm a bit quirky that way.
I have rabbits... they are amazing. Quiet, tasty, and produce the best soil amendments I've ever seen. My breed of choice is the Champagne d'Argent; a French heritage breed used for both meat and pelt.

I have raised garden beds- the soil in my neighborhood is heavy clay, and after a few years of trying to fight it, I gave up and worked with it. I will never go back. A good portion of this website is my misadventures in food processing... and I'm not afraid to share my failures.
I believe others can learn from my mistakes.
There are many other things I enjoy; I read, write, draw. I love long naps and rainy days. If that doesn't sound like an ad for a dating app, I don't know what does. :)
